Community Support Staff assume responsibility for the care of participants in the community. They perform duties in such a way that reflects the individualization, integration and fulfillment of
individual potential for the person(s) being provided services. They seek family input into activities and outings and acknowledge and respect participants choices and preferences in providing
experiences and activities.
Following are some activities that Community Support Staff may participate in:
After School Respite - taking a small group of children to participate in community activities such as athletic events, picnics in the park, visiting a zoo or the children's museum.
Special Needs Respite - working one on one with a child who needs individualized services.
Residential Habilitation - working with individuals in their homes. This may consist of aiding an adult with house cleaning skills, preparing a budget, shopping, parenting skills, etc. With a child,
this may include hygiene, homework or study skills.
Day Habilitation - working on social skills in the community. Activities include participating in a community activity where the individual can learn new ways of interacting with others.
Respite - providing families with care for their children in their home.
